How this all started

A joint venture between packaging and display trade specialist Swanline Group and paper-based packaging producer McLaren Packaging, CorrBoard Bioenergy is located adjacent to CorrBoard UK, the consortium-owned independent corrugated producer based in Scunthorpe of which Swanline and McLaren are part owners.

Although autonomous neighbouring businesses, our innovative facility effectively makes CorrBoard UK’s production carbon neutral, providing an advantage to our customers and partners.

CorrBoard Bioenergy facilitates the manufacture of carbon neutral corrugated material and diverts 25,000 tonnes of biological waste from landfill to provide enough electricity and heat to sustain 1,500 homes.

Much of the waste needed for our 6,400 Megawatt / annum energy plant is sourced from packaging users who require compliant food waste disposal; thus providing a robust circular economy.

Our Mission:

Creating a circular economy for the food and drinks industry

By-Products

The two by-products from the generation of energy at our plant are heat and fertiliser. Our quality fertiliser, pasteurised and certified to PAS 110, is suitable for spreading on local farmland to aid crop growing.

The second by-product, heat, is transferred into CorrBoard UK to heat the building and pre-heat the water that goes to the boiler for steam to go to the corrugator to manufacture the corrugated board, resulting in zero waste energy from this plant.
